Adidas Samba
The Adidas Samba series was born in Europe in the 1950s, while the dance floors were already shaking and quaking at the rhythm of Latin-American music and Brazil emerged as the rising, bright star of the World Cup events. In fact, it was during that mid-20th century that athletic events gained so much appeal and the whole sports industry entered a prosperous era, full of eager passion and quite unmarred yet by venality and doping scandals.
At the same time, Adidas was working to achieve her incontestable predominance as a manufacturer of sports shoes. Her state-of-the-art, thoughtfully crafted products shoed many winning athletes and teams of the track and field and the Adidas brand confirmed itself dynamically in the shoe-manufacturing industry.
Six decades later, the Adidas Samba, this offspring of several very fortunate concurrences, still hold a solid place in the hearts of thousands of Adidas fans. They have been one of the best-selling models of the company and they are featured among her Originals series.
What makes Adidas Samba so popular?
Initially designed for indoor soccer training, Adidas Samba are mostly worn as sports shoes / trainers, offering outstanding traction and flexibility. However, they have also prevailed outside the gyms and fields by virtue of the stability, comfort and stylishness they feature. One might hear people calling them sneakers, for they are also perfect for a casual, urban or sports, apparel and very comfortable for a long day's work.
Leather, suede or denim; with or without trefoils, tongues and other decorative elements; black, white, blue, brown, beige or what-have-you – the Sambas come in an incredible variety of colors and combinations of materials, making it easy to choose the pair that matches best your wardrobe and style. They look good with many outfits and they are available in many color combinations.
Above all, though, Adidas Samba are best known for their superior quality, namely for their flexibility, endurance and firm grip on the ground. The shoes have won over many loyalties and they come only second in sales after the company’s very successful Stan Smith Series.
More Adidas Samba Options
Over the years, Adidas, aiming to make these all-time favorites even more versatile, has produced the Sambas in several models. Some of them belong now to shoe-making history; others are still being produced and sought after by athletes and non-athletes alike.
Adidas Samba Classic. The flagship of the series, the black leather shoe with the three white stripes, has reached its 60th birthday and still sells like crazy. Work in it, train in it, then go to the movies in it - it won't disappoint you in either case. Best for indoors training, offers great traction and superior comfort.
Adidas Samba Classic K. A variation of the Samba Classic, made of kangaroo leather. Stout and resilient, perhaps even more than its ‘big’ brother.
Adidas Samba Millennium. For those who don’t really care for the extended foldable tongue, this Samba Classic alternative retains the stylish looks of the former, but with increased dressing options.
Adidas Samba 62. This model has a really retro look. With a foam mid-sole to absorb shock and the Samba gum sole for excellent traction, it emulates the legendary comfort of the series, with a more sophisticated style.
Adidas Samba 80. One more retro version, although their looks approach them rather to the Classic than to the 62 model.
There have been Adidas Samba 85, Adidas Samba Star Wars and Adidas Samba JP, among others. They come in all colors, from the plain and simple black and white, to navy white, various tones of grey, dark blue and electric blue, black and red, fresh mint, metallic – anything you can imagine, for all clothes combinations. It seems that the hardest choice is which Adidas Samba to wear.
